With the hectic pace and demands of modern life, many people feel stressed and over-worked. It often feels like there is just not enough time in the day to get everything done. Our stress and tiredness make us unhappy, impatient and frustrated. It can even affect our health. We are often so busy we feel there is no time to stop and meditate! But meditation actually gives you more time by making your mind calmer and more focused. A simple ten or fifteen minute breathing meditation can help you to overcome your stress and find some inner peace and balance.

Meditation can also help us to understand our own mind. We can learn how to transform our mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy. Overcoming negative minds and cultivating constructive thoughts is the purpose of many meditations practiced by a diverse collection of faiths. This is a profound spiritual practice you can enjoy throughout the day, not just while seated in meditation.

We will try to take you through meditation from its most basic aspects to some of the more detailed and advanced practices in furthering your spiritual growth toward enlightenment. Anyone can benefit from meditation, pagan, christian, or new age. We hope that you find this information useful and enjoy the inner peace that comes from meditation.

Meditation is a wonderful skill, a way for a person to relax and not think about their problems so that they can allow their mind to see more deeply into the nature of reality. Every form of meditation uses some object on which to focus their attention. You can use the sensations of the breath, the emotional connection with the self and others, the physical sensations of the body, sounds, visualized images, etc. This kind of meditation has been shown to have many medical and psychological benefits, such as promoting a sense of wellbeing, boosting the immune system, lowering blood pressure, reducing stress and slowing aging. Anyone and everyone can benefit from the practice.

There is a design behind meditating. The purpose of meditation is to cleanse your soul and connect with your subconscious. The reason you meditate is to disconnect your conscious mind and connect your inner self to the universe. We meditate because we need to! You can not exist without an inner balance from time to time. Every human connects with their subconscious out of instinct if not deliberately. Enjoying a quiet walk in the park, a long bath, watching a sunset, and so on are activities that people will partake in that are actions so as to unwittingly meditate, clearing their minds of daily stress.

Our need for that down time is so great that your subconscious will direct you to participate in an activity that quiets the mind so you can recharge your existence by connecting to the universe. Without connecting to source you feel stressed and tired and desperately in need of a vacation. You seek relaxation; you crave solitude, and desire nothing more than a few moments of peace. This is your need desperately crying out for you to take action, a simple action; meditation.

You just start, there are no special tools, statues, or incense, just find a comfortable place and start by clearing your mind of all thoughts, then one muscle at a time force your body into a relaxed state.

Nothing is set in stone, you can meditate anywhere. Some people prefer silence and solitude while others have different requirements, some may choose to meditate during their work out, at concerts, over morning coffee. Meditation is at its most effective in a time and place that you feel most comfortable and safe. We suggest twice a day, breifly in the morning and at length in the evening. But your needs may dictate differently.

Visualization is a key factor in meditation, learning to use it is critical.

Meditation in Magick is a common practice and increases the effectiveness of spellwork.
