Whether it's a formal ritual or done spontaneously, a Wiccan ritual's purpose is to contact the divine. Similar to most religions, Wiccan rituals generally follow a basic structure patterned that Wiccans know by memory. More formal rituals are generally performed using a "sacred space"--any area that has been designated, cleaned and blessed for the sacred ritual. Every tradition has its own structure. The patterns and behaviors that make up a set of rituals. Within Wicca these are generic steps that fall into a symbolic order, within the Silver Moon Crow Coven these steps are as follows:

  • Have and Know the purpose for your ritual.
  • Have all items you will need ready.
  • Physically Clean the Ritual space.
  • Purify yourself (usually a bath).
  • Set up the Sacred Space, (altar & tools, decorations, music, etc).
  • Ground and Center
  • Purify the Sacred Space (using a besom).
  • Cast the circle.
  • Anoint Participants (With Oil).
  • Asperge the ritual space (Salt Water and Incense)
  • Call the Quarters.
  • Invoke the Goddess and the God.
  • Ritual observance - drawing down the moon (on esbats), seasonal celebration (on sabbats)
  • Raise energy pertaining to reason for the ritual.
  • Perform works of magick.
  • Earthing Power
  • Meditate.
  • Cakes and Ale.
  • Offering to the God and the Goddess, which consists of part of the Simple Feast.
  • Thank the Goddess and the God for Their attendance.
  • Dismiss the Quarters: Thanking the Elements for their attendance.
  • Close the circle.
  • Physically clean up and offer the remaining Libations out doors as an offering to nature and the Fae.
